Filling paint in the closed recess area on semi-finished products after polishing / plating called coloring.
There are three kinds of paint – soft enamel, colorful epoxy and soft cloisonne.
Soft enamel and colorful epoxy are filled on plated products. Soft enamel is less shiny, however colorful epoxy is bright-colored and shiny.
Soft cloisonne should be filled on the raw models then polished when the paint gets solid till seeing different color area, and finally plated. So there will be tiny polishing lines on the soft cloisonne surface, and the metal borders are at the same level as the colored area which is the feature of soft cloisonne.
Enamel filled after plating, the enamel is diluted paint mixed with water when filling, and it will look like recessed after baking because the water has gone only leaving the paint there. Two contiguous color need to be separated by the raised metal ridge, and the two colors could not be filled at the same time. Because we need the raised metal ridge to separate the two contiguous colors, small line or picture would always made raised metal, rather than make it enamel, the metal color would be more obvious than the enamel color if it is too small, because the raised metal ridge is bigger than the enamel line or picture.
Imitation hard enamel is slabby when filling, and would not become recessed after baking, because the enamel is made by epoxy and paint, and the epoxy would not be gone after baking, it would only become hard. It looks as flat as the raised metal after polishing, rather than recessed like soft enamel. Small line and pictures could not make enamel, as same reason with soft enamel.
Tinted enamel, which is made by epoxy and paint, is similar with imitation hard enamel, but the enamel is not flat because we do not do polishing after we bake the enamel dry.
It is also called jerry-like enamel, similar with tinted enamel, but the enamel is translucent.
Silk screen printing is print on the flat metal, one color per time. Each color needs a mold which can usually be kept for three months. An epoxy dome will then be filled on top of the printing to protect it unless it is printed on imitation hard enamel. Small lines and pictures can be made very clearly if using silk screen compared with enamel.
Offset printing is printed by machine in mass metal board and then cut into single piece. It will also require epoxy dome to protect the printing.
